AMC+ is Shudder’s sibling, which means it’s quietly stacked with some of the best independent and international horror around. These are the ones worth your time, led by Strange Darling, Speak No Evil, and The Devil’s Candy, each a film I’ve reviewed or ranked among the best of its year.
Every pick links to where it’s streaming, and the list gets refreshed as titles come and go.
Critics and Audience scores from Rotten Tomatoes; ratings from IMDb. Scores as of October 2026.
STRANGE DARLING (2024)

A one-night stand turns into a desperate cat-and-mouse chase across rural Oregon, told in six scrambled chapters and shot on 35mm by Giovanni Ribisi. JT Mollner keeps flipping who you think is hunting whom, and Willa Fitzgerald is ferocious.▶ Streaming on AMC+
SPEAK NO EVIL (2022)

A Danish family accepts a weekend invitation from the Dutch couple they met on holiday and won’t leave no matter how bad it gets. Every instinctual alarm goes off and nobody listens. They play into societal expectation, and then they are exploited. A vicious film. ▶ Streaming on AMC+ · Read the full review
THE DEVIL’S CANDY (2016)

Heavy metal is evil again as a father/artist falls into a productive (but costly) trance when he moves into a home with a killer history in this steely-eyed creeper from the director of The Loved Ones. Sean Byrne’s metal-scored horror follows a painter whose new home comes with a satanic voice, with Ethan Embry and Pruitt Taylor Vince both excellent.▶ Streaming on AMC+
A DARK SONG (2016)

A grieving mother hires an occultist to perform a months-long ritual in a remote Welsh house so she can speak to her dead son. Liam Gavin’s slow-burn chamber horror is rigorous, terrifying, and unexpectedly moving. Catherine Walker and Steve Oram are superb as the mismatched pair.▶ Streaming on AMC+
WATCHER (2022)

An American trails her husband to Bucharest, doesn’t speak the language, and every night the man across the courtyard is watching back. Her sanity and her marriage unfurl as the specter grows. Maika Monroe is excellent as an American in Bucharest convinced the man across the street is stalking her, and Chloe Okuno’s direction is taut throughout.▶ Streaming on AMC+ · Read the full review
WHEN EVIL LURKS (2023)

Two brothers in rural Argentina find a man rotting from demonic possession and make every wrong call trying to get rid of him. Demián Rugna’s film has no rules about who is safe, and its shocks land harder than almost anything in mainstream horror.▶ Streaming on AMC+
ODDITY (2024)

A blind antique dealer moves a life-size wooden man into her dead twin’s house and waits. Doles out breadcrumbs at a healthy pace, and McCarthy’s sinister streak will delight anyone craving a scare. Damian Mc Carthy’s Irish chiller is built on precise, patient scares, and its wooden mannequin is one of the creepiest horror props around.▶ Streaming on AMC+ · Read the full review
THE DARK AND THE WICKED (2020)

Two adult siblings return to their family’s Texas farm to watch their father die, and something has been waiting for them. Bryan Bertino’s bleak, merciless slow burn is one of the most genuinely upsetting horror films of the 2020s.▶ Streaming on AMC+
THE UGLY STEPSISTER (2025)

A confident, stomach-churning debut that cements Emilie Blichfeldt as a thrilling new voice in horror. Fairytale whimsy and grotesque body horror collide in a nightmarish fable about the violence of beauty standards, anchored by a breakout performance from Lea Myren.▶ Streaming on AMC+ · Read the full review
MANDY (2018)

Nicholas Cage. Murder cults. Biker gangs from hell. Mandy is a balls-out acid-trip that’s kinda artsy and totally cheeseball and fully worth your attention. Cage goes gonzo. Nicolas Cage goes full Cage in Panos Cosmatos’ psychedelic revenge odyssey, complete with a chainsaw duel and one of Jóhann Jóhannsson’s final scores.▶ Streaming on AMC+ · Read the full review
WEREWOLVES WITHIN (2021)

Josh Ruben continues to make a name for himself in the horror-comedy game with his adaptation of Werewolves Within, which employs a supremely-affable ensemble cast, a goofy premise, and plenty of directorial gags to monstrously-amusing effect. Continue to keep a close eye on this guy, he’s apt to transform into a big-timer one of these lunar rotations.▶ Streaming on AMC+ · Read the full review
RELIC (2020)

Three generations of women in a house that grows corridors as the grandmother’s dementia advances. The script complicates the dynamic with implied unpleasant histories without severing that unbreakable bond of family. Natalie Erika James’ debut uses a decaying family home as a metaphor for dementia, and its final image is devastating.▶ Streaming on AMC+ · Read the full review
JAKOB’S WIFE (2021)

A minister’s wife of thirty years gets bitten, and vampirism is the best thing that ever happened to her marriage. Goretastic and laugh out loud hilarious, a ’90s throwback openly in love with Nosferatu. Barbara Crampton is wonderful as a minister’s wife who discovers a new appetite for life (and blood), with Larry Fessenden as her bewildered husband.▶ Streaming on AMC+ · Read the full review
SPUTNIK (2020)

A Soviet cosmonaut returns to Earth in 1983 with something living inside him, and a young psychiatrist is brought in to separate them. This Russian creature feature borrows from Alien but has its own Cold War chill and a genuinely gnarly monster.▶ Streaming on AMC+
THE OTHER LAMB (2020)

A teenage girl raised in an all-female cult in the woods begins to question the charismatic man who calls himself the Shepherd. Malgorzata Szumowska’s eerie, gorgeous folk horror is an unsettling coming-of-age story about breaking free.▶ Streaming on AMC+
VIOLATION (2020)

A woman assaulted by her sister’s husband during a lake weekend takes her revenge, and the film makes you sit in every minute of the aftermath. Grounded entirely in consequence, and still the best of Sundance’s narrative midnighters.▶ Streaming on AMC+
HUESERA: THE BONE WOMAN (2023)

A young woman in Mexico City finally gets pregnant and starts seeing a spider-limbed figure that cracks its joints in the dark. Michelle Garza Cervera’s debut is body horror about the side of motherhood nobody talks about, and it crawls right under the skin.▶ Streaming on AMC+
THE RENTAL (2020)

Two couples book a seaside vacation home and start to suspect someone is watching them. Dave Franco’s directorial debut is a tense, nasty little thriller about the secrets people bring along on the trip. Alison Brie, Dan Stevens, and Sheila Vand round out a strong cast.▶ Streaming on AMC+
RED ROOMS (2023)

A model becomes obsessed with the trial of a serial killer whose crimes were streamed on the dark web. Pascal Plante’s Québécois thriller never shows the violence and is all the more disturbing for it, anchored by Juliette Gariépy’s icy, unreadable lead.▶ Streaming on AMC+
HUNTER HUNTER (2020)

A family of fur trappers living off the grid is stalked by a wolf, but the real predator turns out to be far worse. Shawn Linden’s slow-burn survival horror builds to one of the most brutal finales in modern horror. Camille Sullivan is extraordinary as a mother pushed past her limits.▶ Streaming on AMC+
HOST (2020)

Six friends hold a séance over a video call, and something answers. Rob Savage squeezes genuine terror out of a laptop screen in under an hour, and the jump scares are some of the most effective of the 2020s. It runs under an hour and wastes none of it.▶ Streaming on AMC+
LA LLORONA (2019)

Jayro Bustamante reimagines the Latin American legend as a ghost story about the Guatemalan genocide, haunting the household of a retired general accused of atrocities. It’s slow, elegant, and politically furious horror.▶ Streaming on AMC+
DANGEROUS ANIMALS (2025)

A serial killer runs a shark cage tour and feeds his victims over the side, until he takes a surfer who fights. No species is harder to hunt than man, and he may have bitten off more than he can chew. Jai Courtney plays a serial killer who feeds his victims to sharks, and Sean Byrne turns that absurd premise into a lean, nasty survival thriller.▶ Streaming on AMC+ · Read the full review
SCARE ME (2020)

Scare Me milks its juicy premise, two horror storytellers trying to frighten each other on a cold, dark night, for all that it’s worth, proving that less is more when you get the ingredients right and let the rest of the noise fall away. The refreshing performances all pop, particularly when they get nutty.▶ Streaming on AMC+ · Read the full review
TRAGEDY GIRLS (2017)

Alexandra Shipp and Brianna Hildebrand are fantastic as fame-seeking murderesses in this sharp satire on social media culture. With shades of Mean Girls, Scream, Heathers and Carrie, Tragedy Girls is the meta-horror-comedy of 2017 that is never quite as over-the-top or inventive with its violence as I wanted.▶ Streaming on AMC+ · Read the full review
ANYTHING FOR JACKSON (2020)

A grieving grandmother and grandfather (Sheila McCarthy and Julian Richings) kidnap a pregnant woman to reincarnate their dead grandson through a satanic ritual. It’s a surprisingly funny, gross little horror movie with an unusually sweet couple at its center.▶ Streaming on AMC+ · Read the full review
THE QUEEN OF BLACK MAGIC (2019)

Orphans return to the rural Indonesian orphanage where they grew up, only to be tormented by a vengeful black magic curse. Kimo Stamboel’s remake is relentlessly gory, with some of the grossest body-horror set pieces you’ll ever see.▶ Streaming on AMC+ · Read the full review
THE LAST BREATH (2024)

A diving trip to a sunken World War II wreck turns deadly when sharks start circling the trapped explorers. It’s a lean, effective creature feature that knows exactly what audiences came for. Its claustrophobic wreck sequences are genuinely nerve-racking, and it never wears out its welcome.▶ Streaming on AMC+ · Read the full review
SATOR (2019)

A family living deep in the woods is haunted by an entity called Sator, which has been communicating with their grandmother for years. Jordan Graham made the film almost entirely by himself over several years, and its quiet, homemade dread is genuinely unsettling.▶ Streaming on AMC+
THE BOY BEHIND THE DOOR (2020)

Two boys are kidnapped and taken to an isolated farmhouse, and one escapes only to sneak back in to save his friend. David Charbonier and Justin Powell’s thriller is relentlessly tense and impressively crafted. Its young leads are remarkably good, and it never lets up.▶ Streaming on AMC+
