Silver Screen Riot is an independent film site written and edited by Matt Oakes, a Tomatometer-approved critic and founding member of the Seattle Film Critics Society. Here’s how the site works.
How I review
Every review on Silver Screen Riot is written by me after watching the full film, whether at a festival, a press screening, a theatrical showing, or via an official screener. Reviews reflect my honest opinion. Studios, distributors, and publicists never see a review before it’s published and have no say in what it says.
Grades
Reviews end with a letter grade from A+ to F. Lists, rankings, and streaming guides use those same grades and the site’s grade labels (Critic’s Pick, Must See, Seek It Out, Solid, and so on), so a recommendation means the same thing everywhere on the site.
Screenings and screeners
Like most critics, I often see films at press screenings or through screener links provided by distributors and publicists. Access never comes with conditions on coverage, and it doesn’t influence the grade.
Streaming guides
Every pick in the streaming guides is a film I’ve personally seen, and most link to my full review. Availability is checked against current streaming catalogs and refreshed at least once a month, with the “Last updated” date at the top of each guide. Scores from Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb are included for context and refreshed regularly.
Affiliate links
Some links on the site, such as “Watch on Prime Video,” rent or buy links, and free-trial links, are affiliate links. If you rent, buy, or sign up through them, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Affiliate relationships never affect which films get picked or how they’re graded. Silver Screen Riot is also supported by display advertising.
Corrections
If I get something wrong, whether a credit, a date, or where a movie is streaming, I’ll fix it. Spot an error? Email me at [email protected] and I’ll correct it promptly.
