Diana Prince Swings Across Lightning Bolts in Flashy ‘WONDER WOMAN 1984’ Trailer

Diana Prince Swings Across Lightning Bolts in Flashy ‘WONDER WOMAN 1984’ Trailer

Two years ago, Wonder Woman proved that a female-led superhero movie was not destined for poor box office returns and critical lashings, the Patty Jenkins-directed big-screen debut becoming the DCEU’s biggest success at the time. Though the film wasn’t perfect, there was plenty to enjoy and fans were eager to see more of Gal Gadot’s version of Diana Prince. With DC’s current film slate in an admittedly confusing jumble of maybe/maybe-not-interconnectedness, their latest approach has seemed to deteether their heroes and if Wonder Woman 1984′s trailer indicates anything, it’s that the title star won’t be worrying about making room for Batman, Aquaman or anything other supermen.

In the sequel, Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) squares off against the Cheetah (Kristen Wiig), a feline-inspired super-villainess, while learning to navigate the 80s and reacquainting with long-lost love interest Steve Trevor (Chris Pine). Plot details seem pretty sparse beyond that, with no indication as to how Trevor has seemingly returned from the grave and has not aged a day since WWI. It’s all well and good to play these things close to the vest but Trevor seems to play a major part of the events depicted here so they need to do some fancy footwork to justify how exactly they plan to juggle life and death stakes in a franchise that seems to want to be taken more seriously than its Marvel competitors.

Check out the first trailer below, where Diana Prince uses her Whip of Truth to Tarzan swing across lightning. Cuz why not.

Wonder Woman 1984 opens June 5, 2020.
