Initially set to release in October of this year, Joe Wright’s The Woman in the Window was pushed in the midst of the Disney-Fox merger but now we finally have a first look at the psychological thriller and it looks, as expected, like a Joe Wright-directed psychological thriller. Based on the novel of the same name from A.J. Finn, The Woman in the Window stars Amy Adams as an agoraphobic developmental psychologist who witnesses the murder of her neighbor, or so she thinks.
The most obvious comparison here is to Hitchcock’s masterpiece Rear Window and with a supporting cast that includes Jennifer Jason Leigh, Gary Oldman, Brian Tyree Henry, Wyatt Russell, and Anthony Mackie and the decorated Wright at the helm, The Woman in the Window looks like it could try to compete at a similar level of pedigree. Even if it ends up skewing more towards the popcorn than arthouse crowd, the film is sure to boast fine performances, particularly from Adams, who seems to once again light up the screen.
The official synopsis details, “Agoraphobic Dr. Anna Fox witnesses something she shouldn’t while keeping tabs on the Russell family, the seemingly picture-perfect clan that lives across the way.”

It sounds weird to say this about a likely R-rated psychological thriller but Disney will release “The Woman in the Window” on May 15, 2020.
