ALL THE BOYS LOVE MANDY LANE Trailer is a Joke

“It’s not scary,” reads my F review for All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, “It’s not funny. It’s not ironic. It’s white bread soaked in water. It’s such a dullard that it’s almost confusing. I really do think that [director Jonathan] Levine must have assumed that there was something ironic about doing exactly what we expected him to do but in reality, it works about as well as the Hindenburg. That is, it blew up in his face.” Thankfully, you now have a chance to judge this bottom feeder for yourself.

My biggest problem with the stilted horror film is that it seems to want to send up the genre but winds up doing nothing more than adhering to it tooth-and-nail, clinging to familiarity like a toddler’s first day at kindergarten. Starring Amber Heard as Mandy Lane, the story follows a young beauty of budding popularity who goes on a weekend excursion with the cool kids. As suggested by the trailer and the slasher premise of it all, people start dropping like flies.

The only reason that people continue to talk about this movie is because it was filmed all the way back in 2006 and has been kept shelved, only to resurface with the success of Jonathan Levine’s more recent work. Word of mouth has a strange way of bubbling up for no reason and withholding here has certainly seemed to work for All the Boys Love Mandy Lane. I will caution you to avoid the movie like scabies (full review here) but there’s no harm done in laughing along at the trailer. Trust me, there is nothing beyond the surface on his dead-eyed snoozer.

All the Boys Love Mandy Lane is directed by Jonathan Levine and stars Amber Heard, Anson Mount, Whitney Able, Michael Welch, Edwin Hodge, Aaron Himelstein, Luke Grimes, and Melissa Price. It finally opens in theaters, seven years later, on September 6.

First Trailer and Poster for Oscar Contender DALLAS BUYERS CLUB

Matthew McConaughey has really done a 180 on his career, spinning his public persona from a shirtless, rom-com beefcake to a quality contender in the Oscar race. The transformation from Failure to Launch McConaughey to Mud McConaughey has been a staggering one, with many saying that he deserved an Oscar nom last year for his ironic portrayal in the male-stripper drama Magic Mike. McConaughey’s latest, however, has him poised to receive his first nomination doubtlessly.

In Dallas Buyers Club, McConaughey fills the true-life shoes of Ron Woodroof, an average joe blindsided by with an HIV-positive diagnosis and given 30 days to live. While U.S. policy left those infected to essentially die, Ron sought out non-toxic alternative treatments from all over the world regardless of legality in a bid to save both his own life and those around him. While the government tried to stop him at every turn from selling non-FDA-stamped medicines, he created a “buyers club,” where his fellow HIV-positive people could access their much needed supplies. In short, he was a savior to those stricken to the immuno-virus, battling the government and fighting for his life.

A true life story, tragic subject material, and a physical transformation to boot all add up to a whopper of a nomination bid so don’t be surprised when McConaughey’s name starts popping over prediction boards the world over. Also, Jared Leto is a transvestite. So there.

Take a look at the trailer and see how serious of a contender you find in McConaughey.

Dallas Buyers Club is directed by Jean-Marc Vallée and stars Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner, Jared Leto, Steve Zahn and Dallas Roberts. It opens December 6, 2013.

J.J. Abrams Intriguingly Teases New Project

While taking with EW.com, "Episode VII" director J.J. Abrams opened up about what he has in mind for continuing the venerable "Star Wars" franchise.

There is little known about J.J. Abram’s (Star Trek, Lost) newest project, and no, I am not referring to Star Wars 7. Without a title, synopsis or confirmation as to whether it is a film, a short film, a television show or a Spanish telenovela, this little tease, entitled “Stranger,” is just compelling enough to pique our interest in the newest project from the horn-rimmed glass slinging, sci-fi guru’s Bad Robot production company.

As a massive fan of Lost and 2009’s Star Trek, I’m curious to see just what Abram’s has cooking but would hardly venture to say that we’re guaranteed something of value here. Though Abrams has been a part of some massive success stories, he’s also has his hand in some not so stellar projects.

One way or another, this little one minute tease is certainly worth a look.

Posthumous Trailer for James Gandolfini's ENOUGH SAID

The entertainment community suffered a staggering loss with the passing of James Gandolfini but luckily one final performance from the man most known for his gangster persona on The Sopranos remains to be seen in the indie film, Enough Said. As a major change of pace for Gandolfini, he plays a vulnerable and sensitive man suffering from depression after a divorce.

Gandolfini plays against Julia Louis-Dreyfus (Seinfeld) with a confusing synopsis that reads: A divorced woman who decides to pursue the man she’s interested in learns he’s her new friend’s ex-husband.

Co-star Toni Collette said of Gandolfini’s performance, “He was just so generous, so funny, so sweet and a real teddy bear. I know he had certainly in the Sopranos but in a lot of roles was cast as a strong, influential dude and here he plays a character who’s compromised and confused and vulnerable.

Take a look at the trailer and see if you’ll try and support the final performance from a behemoth talent.

Enough Said is directed by Nicole Holofcener and stars James Gandolfini, Toni Collette, Catherine Keener, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. It opens on September 20.

HOMELAND Season 3 Gets Emotional 3 Minute Trailer

If you haven’t yet tuned into Showtime‘s Homeland, stop what you’re doing and get on the ball. Seriously, you owe it to yourself to make time for this show. Defined by absolutely stunning performances from Claire Danes, Damian Lewis and Mandy Patinkin, the first season was edge-of-your-seat entertainment that seemed impossible to follow up.

While the second season wasn’t quite the shocking breath of fresh air that the first one way, the performers continued to entrance us and it proved the Homeland was here to stay as a massive entertaining show. From 24’s showrunner Howard Gordon, Homeland is based on the Israeli series Hatufim, obviously changed to make it pertinent to an American audience.

Anyone who has kept up with the show has surely latched onto the love story of mentally unstable CIA operative, Carrie Mathison (Danes), and shifty domestic terrorist, Nicholas Brody (Lewis). Since the second season ended with a bang (pun intended), this next part of the journey could really go anywhere and that’s one of the best parts of this show – we literally have no idea where it will be heading next. I, for one, can’t wait for the next part of this stellar series. New episodes premiere on September 29.

Trailer for George Clooney's Oscar Hopeful THE MONUMENTS MEN

George Clooney‘s Monuments Men screams Oscar. From the all-star cast, to the historical premise, to Clooney’s gilded track record behind the camera, I’d be surprised if it didn’t pull off at least five nominations and mostly a lot more – Best Picture, Best Director, Adapted Screenplay, Art Direction, Cinematography, Score, you name it, this has a strong shot.

Clooney leads an elite but rag-tag crew of soldiers, art historians and museum curators. Without training and with only a six of them, they are to enter Germany amidst WWII to recover renowned works of art stolen by Nazis before Hitler destroys them.

With a supporting cast that includes Matt Damon, Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett, Jean Dujardin, Bob Balaban, Hugh Bonneville and John Goodman, there’s a lot of opportunity for acting nominations as well but this trailer doesn’t necessarily pinpoint any particular performance.

Take a look at the trailer and see if you think it’ll be cleaning up the floor with its Oscar nom.

Joaquin Phoenix Loves an AI in Spike Jonze's HER Trailer

Spike Jonze is a brilliant filmmaker. From Adaptation to Being John Malkovich, Where the Wild Things Are to Jackass, he has a unique view of things, typically informed by the writing of Charlie Kaufman. While Her is not a collaboration with Kaufman, it is an original concept from Jonze that sounds kind of intriguing until you watch the trailer and its massively talented cast. Then, it becomes very, very intriguing.

Joaquin Phoenix is Theodore Twombly, a heartbroken and lonely writer. In the throes of a post-breakup depression, Twombly develops an unlikely relationship with his newly-purchased operating system that’s designed to meet his every need (voiced by Scarlett Johansson).

The film co-stars Amy Adams, Rooney Mara, Olivia Wilde, Chris Pratt and Scarlett Johansson as the voice of “Samantha”.

Take a look at the trailer and see if you’d want to go running to theaters to see this.

It's Hammer Time in Second THOR: THE DARK WORLD Trailer

After a host of teaser pictures, a first trailer and a rather dull poster, Thor: The Dark World returns to the internet world to excite the feeble minds of the fanboy drones. While “superhero fatigue” is certainly a thing many bloggers experience, I have pretty much been onboard with the Marvel films up to this point. The onslaught of marketing though does get tiring. So without further adieu, here is the newest trailer for Thor: The Dark World. Expect about three more before it debuts in November.

Thor: The Dark World is directed by Game of Thrones helmer Alan Taylor andstars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie PortmanTom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Jaimie Alexander, Rene Russo, and Anthony Hopkins and opens in theaters on November 8, 2013.
